In November 2006, Bicol was hit by typhoon Reming. The typhoon ravage the entire region leaving thousands of homeless families and devastated communities. In response to AFI’s call for help, funds from different parts of the world poured in to help the affected families in Bicol. The disaster response program of AFI, Sagip Kapamilya, went there to provided rescue and relief services. After the disaster response operations, Sagip Kapamilya turned over what they have started to ABS- CBN Bayan for the next phase of intervention which is community rehabilitation and development. |

| Since school buildings and facilities were destroyed by typhoon Reming, Sagip Kapamilya together with ABS- CBN Bayan repaired 49 classrooms; improved 14 toilets, school fence, and school water systems and repaired 167 armchairs. The beneficiaries were the Daraga North Central School and the Oas North Central School in Albay. The schools were also provided educational television (ETV) packages in the teaching of Science, Math, English, Literature and History subjects. |

In cooperation with Gawad Kalinga, Sagip Kapamilya also funded its grand project called GK 1 Milyong Bayani Challenge where the contestants/volunteers each built a house for a total of 84 houses and a multipurpose center in the GK Village in Anislag, Daraga.
ABS- CBN Bayan allocated Php 6 million for 100 houses and a multipurpose center for the families with special children. This is in partnership with Simon of Cyrene, a local NGO that takes care of the needs of children with disabilities and their families. The Philippine Soong Ching Ling Foundation has also donated funds for the construction of 20 more houses in the village.
